Federico Fellini ORCHESTRA REHEARSAL
The musical performance, based on the legendary filmmaker Federico Fellini’s movie, is a witty rendering of the lives of the musicians and the conductor. Soloists and orchestra from the Moscow State Theatre named after Natalia Sats perform famous opera overtures and arias. Conductor maestro Simone Fermani (Italy), who is the great-grandchild of Giuseppe Verdi daughter.
“Our “Orchestra Rehearsal” is kind of like a “Chinese box”, a game within a game”, says author and stage director Georgi Isaakjan. “We really do conduct a rehearsal during the play, yet at the same time it is also a game, since there is no audience in ordinary rehearsals. This game includes multimedia instruments, we do interviews not only with musicians but also with the audience. All this becomes a multi-layered story, where from the one side we introduce the orchestra to the audience and from the other we provide an opportunity peek into the midst of this profession, since for us a rehearsal is a completely ordinary function but for the audience it is a real adventure. Yet our performance is not just a desire to let the audience take a look behind the scenes, since it is an illusion to think that once a person has been behind the scenes, he immediately grasps what theatre is about. It takes years to understand how we live here. And the purpose of this performance is not theatre people talking about themselves, but observing the process of creating music, which is hidden from the eyes of the people on the outside. Our performance is about the magic of creating music, to which we wish to come even a little bit closer and make it more understandable. Perhaps then people will realize that our profession is not so simple after all.”
