The myth of Salieri as a court intriguer, lousy composer and the cause of Mozart’s untimely death has by now been disclaimed. The programme introduces Salieri’s phenomenon in both music and word, regarding their family relationships (Salieri was tutor to Mozart’s son Xaver) as well as the music life at the court. Is Salieri, whose works are rarely performed, perhaps even a composer on par with Mozart?
