THE GOLD OF VIENNA
On January 29 at 17.00, the Estonian Sinfonietta will play the music of the Viennese classics Joseph Haydn, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Ludwig van Beethoven in the White Hall of the House of the Blackheads.
The highlight of the evening will be Mozart's Clarinet Concerto, the composer's last instrumental concerto, which he wrote for his friend Anton Stadler, who premiered it in Prague on October 16, 1791. The clarinet was still a very new musical instrument at the time, and the young Mozart wrote a number of works for it.
In 1785, Mozart wrote to Stadler: 'I have never heard the like of what you contrived with your instrument. Never should I have thought that a clarinet could be capable of imitating the human voice as it was imitated by you. Indeed, your instrument has so soft and lovely a tone that no one can resist it..."
The same can be said about the playing of Soo-Young Lee, a South Korean clarinettist who has been living in Estonia for many years. She has played with various orchestras in Europe, Asia and North America and this time, her exceptionally beautiful playing will captivate the audience once more as she plays as a soloist in front of the Estonian Sinfonietta.
