“Surma ja sünni laulud” / “The Songs of Death and Birth” (1986)

“In his “Songs of Death and Birth” Kuldar Sink uses texts by Spanish poet Federico García Lorca. The piece lasts longer than an hour and is both expressive and meditative in character. By combining Arabian scales seamlessly with European melodies, the composer creates a rare synthesis of different cultures and demonstates his ability to embrace a foreign state of mind while maintaining a Nordic soundscape.” (Brigitta Davidjants)
