House of the Blackheads

The House of the Blackheads is one of the oldest and most renowned building complexes in Tallinn’s Old Town. It serves primarily as a concert venue, hosting a wide range of musical performances throughout the year.

Located in the historic gathering place of Tallinn’s former merchants and craftsmen’s associations, the House of the Blackheads also offers various rooms for receptions, business parties, conferences, and other events, combining cultural heritage with modern functionality.

Tallinn Chamber Orchestra

Tallinn Chamber Orchestra (TCO) was founded in 1993 by conductor Tõnu Kaljuste. During the past three decades it has become one of Estonia’s signature orchestras and a welcome guest performer on numerous stages in Europe and all over the world.TCO has gained recognition for its artistically integral programmes, style-sensitive play and mastery of interpretation. The diverse repertoire of the orchestra includes music from the Baroque, Classical and Romantic era; an important part is also held by the musical works of the composers of 20th and 21st century, including less known pieces and premieres.

Birgitta Festival

The Birgitta Festival began in 2005 under the leadership and artistic direction of Eri Klas and evolved into Tallinn's premier musical highlight of the summer. Held in August amidst the ruins of Bridgettine Convent (Pirita klooster), the festival has featured the highest peaks of global talent and future greats who, for years to come, will remember the medieval walls towering in the sunset and the balmy summer evenings.

Tallinn Philharmonic Society is a concert organization established by the City of Tallinn, operating in the historic House of the Blackheads at Pikk 26. This small concert hall in the heart of the Old Town offers a unique atmosphere, with its most remarkable rooms being the White Hall (1532), the first venue in Renaissance style in Tallinn, and the St. Olaf’s Guild Hall (1422), built in the late Gothic style.

The House of the Blackheads is home to the Tallinn Chamber Orchestra, Estonia’s only professional and permanent chamber orchestra. Since 1995, the Tallinn Philharmonic Society has organized the international music and music theatre festival Birgitta Festival, held in the ruins of the Pirita Convent, combining medieval surroundings with contemporary stage art.
